I am very excited to announce the launch of the Cooking by Kate Blog. For the past 2 years I have had the privilege of cooking for a number of families throughout the twin cities. As I am extroverted to a fault, one thing I did not anticipate when I started my personal chef business is it would be a mainly solitary venture. I find myself alone most of the time in kitchens of various shapes and sizes, cooking away for my clients. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I am left to really focus on the food I prepare. My mind constantly swims with ideas of how to make my business better, as well as my thoughts about food and cooking in general. These thoughts range in purpose, from, "man, a good knife really is essential," to "wow, citrus fruit is so incredibly beautiful when held up to light."
Now, instead of a fleeting thought or Instagram post, I'll share these insights and tidbits with you all. I am excited to have an outlet!
Here on the blog I will:
1) share new menu items and try out new recipes
I often try out new recipes from various blogs, magazines, cookbooks, etc. I usually don't record them or share the new ideas with my clients. But no more! I will post the recipe source as well as photos of the finished product. Clients will be able to choose these new items for their weekly menu.
2) give cooking advice and insights
The more experience I gain in the kitchen the more I discover easy tricks that make cooking easier and more enjoyable. Many people are intimidated by cooking because of a few negative experiences that could have been easily rectified by, for example, using the correct tool or knowing how to cut a certain vegetable more efficiently.
3) tell stories of my attempt at new techniques and skills I have never tried
I'll challenge myself to take on new culinary skills and techniques to expand my knowledge. I look forward to try: kombucha, preserving, fermenting, drying herbs, exploring different cuisines, bread making, homemade pasta, and more!
Stay tuned for more to come. Thanks for stopping by!
